February 26, 2006

Carol has decided that she loves to give foot massages. She actually is really good. I got her a tub, lotion, towel, and other stuff so she is all set. She soaks your feet, scrubs the dead skin, massages them and paints your nails. It’s wonderful! She loves to do it!
Thursday we started after school soccer. Major was the coach and I helped. It is kindergarten and 1st grade girls so it’s pretty easy. Everyone seemed to have a good time and Major loved doing it.
Friday was a half day and Carol and Lucy went to an after school cheer clinic. Lucy volunteered to be held up high above everyone’s head. She is so brave and loved it.

February 21, 2006

This is how I have been feeling lately! Life is exhausting! Poor Lucy feels it too!

In every spare minute I have been making this scripture bag for Carol. Two weeks ago I took a crazy quilting class. It was so much fun, I had to make something! I'm not the best at embroidering, but I'm learning. It's addicting!

Thursday Carol brought home a paper from school about try-outs in Queen Creek for the community play. She really wanted to try-out, but the commute and commitment were just too overwhelming! I decided to look at Gilbert Fine Arts and their try-outs were the next day! I told Carol in the morning of the audition and she wanted to do it. After school we practiced a little and then went to the audition. We got there about 8:00pm and sat until 10:30 before they called her in. We were so exhausted and cold! The building was freezing! I kept asking her if she just wanted to leave, but she really wanted to try-out. I could tell it was stiff competition. The girl next to us had just performed as “Pippi” that night. Everyone was very experienced. Carol didn’t get the part of Brigitta from “Sound of Music”, but I was proud of her for wanting to try and having a great attitude when she didn’t get it. She wants to try again.

Rain Drops (or Something) Keeps Falling On My Head by Clint

Sometimes I wonder if working at Sky Harbor is good for my health! After waking from my coma I realize the third time (accident) is not a charm! Lets backtrack to the first accident (incident) when I first started sky capping about three years ago. Back then I closed the curb and would leave about 8:30 – 9:00 every evening unlike my 7:00pm I currently do. This unlucky night on the south curb I felt a rush of rain right on my head and on my white shirt until I realized it was a grotesque dark murky color. Apparently the supposed rain was a leaky ceiling coming from paradise. I mean Paradise Bakery. The other skycap, who had more seniority, wouldn’t close for me so after I rinsed my hair and changed shirts I was stuck out there waiting to get smacked again. Thank goodness the city came out and fixed the problem. I never did find out if it was grease, the sewer or toxic waste. But as of 10:00 pm February 5, 2006, I am not dead.

I was smacked again about two years later on that same south curb. Again my head was a target. You’ve probably seen the comic from the birds view of these heads below with big bulls eye targets on top of them seeming to say, ”hit me with your best shot” (“fire away” aka Pat Benitar- I loved that song in high school. Wait a second, I am aging myself. Why am I talking about high school?) Anyway back to two years ago, yes I had some white stuff on my hair surely that couldn’t be bird droppings. It’s not like we have any birds flying in this area that is completely covered. I looked up and sure enough straight above me about thirty feet there is the culprit- a pigeon standing on a pipe probably the same pipe that leaked, who knows what, on me two years earlier. Fortunately for me it was quiet on the curb and no passenger had to be traumatized by these horrific events. I can’t blame the city on the fugitive bird’s action but I sure wished the FAA would have allowed arms on that night. I don’t think a BB or pellet gun would suffice. For a while after I always looked up in the air to make sure the path was clear! Maybe someone took care of the problem for me. I swear I didn’t hire a hit –man, I mean a hit-bird.

Fast forward to Friday, February 3, 2006. I was working a double. I took my lunch break. I went to the break room and inquired about sitting at a table where many of my coworkers were sitting and low and behold the sky was falling. The ceiling came crashing down on my head, neck and shoulder. Did I say something about a coma? That was a misprint. With all that white dust I really needed to comb my hair to even out the white hair. Oh yah, I already have lots of gray hair. I had dust particles and wet cement all over me. Who ever said the third time is a charm. Not with me. Some of my coworkers think that I am an accident waiting to happen and do not want to be too close to me. Maybe I’m a jinx, so hit me with your best shot!

Lucy and Juliette

Lucy
Lucy loves to have her picture taken. She picked out this shirt and hat from the store and put together the outfit, including the gloves. It's so cold here! Tee hee!
For some reason, tough Juliette is terrorized by her very small, younger cousin Jacob. He loves the attention of her screaming. The 11-year-old autistic boy next door loves to hear her scream as well. Poor Juliette!

January 29, 2006

Today Major gave a talk in primary. He did really well. He read a scripture in the middle of his talk and it ended with “amen”. Everyone said “amen”. (They were really paying attention!) It was funny! Major just smiled and kept on going. He still thinks it was funny. I’m glad he can laugh about it.
Wednesday I babysat a baby in our ward. I let Lucy stay home from school and help since it was a half-day. She took care of the baby the whole time. I think she let me hold her for about 15 minutes throughout the day. The baby was really fussy, even for me, so I just let Lucy take care of her. She loved it! I kept asking her if she was tired, because I figured a fussy baby isn’t much fun, but she wouldn’t give up. She just loves babies! Even Juliette enjoyed the baby and asks constantly when she is coming again.
Saturday I went to the Cub Scout Pow Wow all day. It was really informative and fun. It’s too bad no one else from our ward went because there were so many great classes and I couldn’t do them all. It’s a little frustrating to me that people are so apathetic about scouts! I want a good scouting program! I’m trying to “raise the bar”, but it is slow going. I don’t think people understand how important this is – just like primary teachers. Oh well.

January 15, 2006

The whole Christmas break I worked on cub scouts! I am the new Wolf leader since Major is in cub scouts now. What a learning curve! I was very disappointed that I didn’t get to do any of my projects that I wanted to do. This last week was insane! I’m sure glad it is over!
On Monday after piano lessons, we bought two red leather sofas for our family room. They won’t come until April or May. I am so excited! This is the first time that we have ever made a major furniture purchase. It was very scary! But we haven’t had buyer’s remorse! Unfortunately now I want stuff to go with it, but I’m out of money. I have to save for the rest of the payment when they come in.
Tuesday is now my busy day! Carol has orchestra and Activity Days and Major has Cub Scouts and basketball practice. Our first den meeting went pretty well considering it was our first time. There is one boy that is really disruptive so the boys are going to be split into two dens. He will not be in our den, thank goodness! Although, I had prepared myself to try and love him.

Wednesday Carol now has cello lessons. Our neighbor across the street is teaching her. I was all excited to have a lesson I didn’t have to attend, but she told me she teaches the Suzuki method and I have to be at the lessons to learn as well. Bummer! Then we went to the school because Major was chosen as Student of the Month.

Saturday was our big day! Major was baptized. He is such a good boy! I am so proud of him.

Every morning he makes his bed, cleans his room, says his prayers, practices the piano and reads his scriptures without being told. He would be translated if he wouldn’t tease his sisters! :) He is a straight A student and always tries to do what is right. I am thankful to have him for a son!
Then we went to Major’s first basketball game. Then Clint and I went to our ward temple session. It was a busy day!

The Blind Mice

Tonight we made chocolate mice. The body is a cherry, the head a hershey kiss and peanuts for ears. They were delicious! Maybe next time they will look more professional. It was fun! Posted by Picasa
